Abstract

806,321. Seats. CHAPMAN, Ltd., A. W. June 4, 1957 [July 12, 1956], No. 21622/56. Glasses 52(1) and 52(2) A seat is mounted on a resilient pedestal, the resistance of which may be varied by operation of a member 28 external to the pedestal without variation of the effective height of the seat. The pedestal comprises tubular members 1 to 3, mounted on a base 4, members 2 sliding telescopically on member 1 and member 3 carrying tracks 11 on which the seat slides and being fixed relative to member 2. A skock absorber C is secured at the upper end to member 2 and the lower end carries a cylinder 22 the bottom edge of which forms a cam surface engaged by :a pair of cams 26 mounted in the base 4 and turned by a hand lever 28. Rotational movement of member 2 is prevented by a pin 36 on member 2 sliding in an axial slot 37 on member 1. The pin may be removed from the slot by a pedal 44. A similar connection between member 2 and 3 permits vertical adjustment of the seat, the pin 47 carried by member 3 engaging a series of holes in member 2. A bolt 62 sliding in slot 63 fixes members 2 and 3 axially.
