Classes 52(2) and 52(3) An adjustable bed for invalids has an upper member consisting of three elements 1, 2, 3 connected by hinges 4, 5 and supported by the main frame of the bed so as to be movable towards the head thereof on connecting rods 6, 7, 13, 17 or lever arms 22 and rods 25 to enable the elements to be inclined at any desired angle to the horizontal. The head board 28 may form a bed table. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the middle element 2 has wheels 29 running on the main frame 12 and leaf springs 36 may be provided to constrain element 2 to take up the position shown in chain-dotted lines, Fig. 4. The movement of member 1 may be checked or assisted by leaf springs 38 attached to legs 16 and engaging rods 13.
