781,369. On-and-off. castors. GOEDHART, G. L., and PANDER, F. Feb. 3, 1956 [Feb. 5, 1955], No. 3442/56. Class 52(1) In an on-and-off castor arrangement for a table or the like each leg consists of a solid cylindrical portion having a tubular piece 2 in pressed fit engagement therewith carrying between rings 3, 4 the annular portion 5 of the bracket 6 of a castor 7 and a tubular rest leg 8 is axiable slidable within tube 2 and kept in the withdrawn position by a spring 11 the leg 8 having diametrically opposite longitudinal slots 19, 20 through which extends an actuating pin 10 which also extends through longitudinal slots 16 in member 2, one slot terminating in a horizontal branch 17 (Fig. 3) and the other in a stepped branch 24 (Fig. 4). A strong spring 21 secured to a pin 22 in leg 8 and the pin 10 urges the latter against the lower ends of slots 19, 20. Pressure downwardly on knob 15 of pin 10 lowers the leg 8 to contact the floor and continued pressure causes the pin 10 to pivot about the edge of slot 20 and the end engages branch 17 to raise the wheel off the ground, this position being fixed by moving knob 15 in a horizontal plane until pin 10 runs against the face 26 of branch 24. To restore the table to starting position 'knob 15 is moved back horizontally and the springs 11, 21 raise leg 8.
