680,819. Castors for furniture &c. HUNT & SON, Ltd., H., and PRING, W. H. Oct. 18, 1950 [Oct. 18, 1949], No. 26703/49. Class 52(i) [Also in Group XV] An "on-off" castor for the legs of vaulting horses, furniture and the like comprises a channelshaped member 10 attached by brackets 22 to the leg and carrying pivotally by a link 18 a castor stem 16 pivoted at 19 to the short arm 15 of a bell-crank lever pivoted at 11 to the member 10, the long arm 14 of the lever acting as a treadle or handle which, upon depression, moves the short arm 15 through a dead-centre position and so lowers the stem 16 to engage the floor. Increased pressure on the castor causes the arm 14 to abut the bracket 17, thus locking the castor in operative position. To render the castor inoperative, the arm 14 is swung upwardly to rest against the leg.
