Abstract

751,432. Levelling devices for tables &c. MATTER, A. J. June 18, 1954, No. 17919 /54. Class 52(3). In a levelling device for a table or other leg, comprising a base member 1 fixed to the leg 5 and having three inclined circular cam-surfaces 1b co-operating with cam-surfaces 2b on a shoe 2 rotatably and slidably mounted on the shank 3a of a screw 3 holding the base member 1 on the leg, the shoe is urged to the extended position shown in Fig. 6 by a C-spring 4 engaged in holes 1d, 2d in the parts 1, 2 respectively. The angle between cam surfaces 1b, 2b is such that the shoe will not turn from the extended position merely by axial pressure but, as soon as the table is moved slightly, it will turn to the levelled position. The cam surfaces are so shaped that the frictional force between them increases as the spring moves into its more extended position.
