Abstract

619,906. Castors. ERIKSEN, A. A. Oct. 25, 1946, No. 31731. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Jan. 24, 1947] [Class 52 (i)] An " on and off " castor for furniture comprises a fixing member 3 integral with a sleeve 6 in which slides freely a vertically extending bolt or stem 5 carrying a wheel 4 and having a notch 9 in which a pivoted pawl 7 engages when the wheel 4 is lowered. To lower the wheel 4 the chair or other article of furniture is tilted allowing the stem 5 to fall until the pawl 7 engages the notch 9. To raise the wheel the chair is titled so as the allow the pawl 7 to swing away from the stem 5 when the wheel may be slid up. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) a wheel is carried on a bar pivoted and slidable in a vertical direction and having a notch which engages a fixed pin in the lowered position of the wheel.
