532,556. Valves. BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE AKT.-GES. Sept. 7, 1939, No. 25318. Convention date, Sept. 5, 1938. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVII] A device for cooling spherical rotary valves for controlling internal combustion engines comprises a spring-pressed concave body 15 mounted in the casing 1 of the valve and fitted with springs 9, 10 and packing rings 18. The coolant enters by a pipe 11 and leaves by pipe 12 which pass through packing 14. The body 15 can rotate about an axis, which is inclined to the axis of rotation of the spherical valve, and is rotated by the action of the valve. The construction of the valve is such that its opening passes the exhaust port before coming into contact with the cooling body 15, so that the exhaust is closed before the valve opening reaches the body 15.
