Abstract
531,063. Lamp caps and holders. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., HARRIS, N. L., and RYDE, J. W. July 11, 1939, No. 20197. [Class 38 (i)] A tubular discharge lamp having at each end a pair of contacts 7 that are engaged with contacts 23 on the holder 8 by inserting the lamp and then turning it on its axis, has a safety device arranged non-symmetrically with relation to the contacts so that the turning of the lamp causes it to engage a member on the holder to render the contacts live only when the lamp is freely inserted. The safety member may be a pin 22, Fig. 2, of elongated crosssection that engages between contacts 21 when turned. A part of the pin may be of circular section to act as a guide. In a modification a circular pin 26, Fig. 3, is placed in line with the contact pins 7 but nearer one than the other, so that on turning the lamp it moves along a groove 24 into engagement with a contact 25. According to the Provisional Specification the safety member may be a pin arranged out of line with the contact pins, or a pin carrying a cross-bar arranged on the axis of the lamp.
