Abstract

528,019. Emulsifying-apparatus. BRUSH ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and SENIOR, K. April 26, 1939, No. 12519. [Class 1 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] A homogenizing valve or crusher head has the two valve members located with respect to one another by means of a long spindle having a bearing surface with an axial length two or more times its diameter. In the form shown in the Figure the movable part comprises a mushroom head 10 formed integrally with a spindle 11 which is hand lapped into a tubular bearing 13 formed integrally with the fixed valve member 12. The member 12 is provided with a flange 17 whereby it is clamped between the end of a pressure cylinder 18 and a housing 21 provided with an outlet connection 22. Inside the housing 21 there is a dispersion sleeve 23 having an outlet 24. One or more washers 15 with valving surfaces may be arranged between the members 10, 12, said washers being internally and/or externally fluted to engage the spindle 11 and/or sleeve 23. The valve member 10 is acted on by a loading rod 25 placed under axial compressive load by a differential screw mechanism 26. In a modification the rod is made integral with the valve member 10 and in a modification of this form the spindle 11 is dispensed with and the rod 25 is used for guiding the valve head.
