Abstract

866,929. Injection moulding. NOTHELFER, W. Nov. 21, 1957 [Nov. 21, 1956], No. 36347/57. Class 87(2). Pressure is maintained in an injection cylinder 2 by an annular non-return valve 12 disposed at the forward end of an injection screw 6. The screw 6 is rotatable and axially reciprocable, and the valve 12 is slidable on an extension 10 of the screw. Rotation of the screw causes the injection material to move the valve 12 forwardly to allow passage of this material through bores 13 in the valve 12, Fig. 1, and an annular groove 17 and bores 9 in an injection piston 8. Forward axial movement of the screw 6 and piston 8 forces the valve 12 into contact with a conical surface 14 on the screw to prevent reverse flow of the material. In a modification, Fig. 3, (not shown), the bores 9 in the piston 8 are replaced by an open annular space surrounding the piston which is thus of smaller diameter. In Fig. 4 a short annular valve 12 having bores 13<SP>11</SP> is slidable between a surface 14 of the screw 6 and a ring 18, the piston 8 being dispensed with. In Fig. 5 the non-return valve comprises a ring 12 providing an annular clearance 25, and the movement of the ring 12 is limited by projections 22 on a member 21.
