Abstract

965,652. Casting machines. VOLKSWAGENWERK A.G. Jan. 24, 1963 [Feb. 7, 1962], No. 3132/63. Heading B3F. [Also in Division F2.] A piston 2 moving in a chamber 5 of an injection-moulding machine 13 has a packing ring 11 mounted between a frusto-conical seat 10 and a displaceable head piece 4 so that during injection the packing is pressed by the head piece against the seat 10 to expand it against the chamber wall, the head piece being guided piston-like in a bore in the piston. The head piece 4 consists of an annular disc secured to a guide bolt 6, the axial movement of which away from the piston, is limited by a nut 7. The head piece and the bolt carry piston rings 14, 15. The piston is screwed to a piston rod 1. The injection chamber 5 is provided with an inlet orifice 12 for liquid casting material. The packing is made of asbestos. Lubrication of the chamber wall is provided by oil fed through a bore 16 in the piston rod.
