Abstract

845,539. Dashpots. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. Jan. 13, 1958 [Jan. 22, 1957], No. 2318/57. Class 108(3). In a hydraulic dashpot discs 6, 12, are connected to a plug 3 and a collar 2 respectively by metal bellows 5, 11. When a hollow rod 7 is moved to the left liquid is forced from the right hand side of collar 2 through a restricted orifice opposite the conical end 15 of an orifice adjusting screw 14, into the hollow rod 7 and out through an orifice 10 into the space between the bellows 5 and the rod 7. Movement of the rod 7 to the right is undamped. Liquid pressure lifts a valve 16 off its seat to uncover ports 4 in the plug 3. A stop 18 limits movement of the rod 7. In a second embodiment rod 7 is in two parts one of which screws into the other. When assembled the two portions define an annular groove in which is located a sealing ring which seals against the inside of the plug 3 which has circular holes instead of grooves 4.
