Abstract

453,632. Valves. SOC. ANON. DES USINES CHAUSSON, 35, Rue Malakoff, Asnieres-sur-Seine, France. Dec. 12, 1935, No. 34521. Convention date, Dec. 14, 1934. [Class 135] A shut-off valve has a double-faced lift valve member adapted to be moved into engagement with the seat proper or with a leakage-preventing sealing surface by an axial movement followed by a cam action under the influence of a spring whereby the valve member is firmly held against the appropriate seat. The Figure shows the invention adapted to the control of a radiator. The tubular casing 4 has an axial bore 4<a> provided with a valve seat 12 leading to a valve chamber 9 connected by ports 10 with a chamber 2 in an outer casing 1. The casing 4 is secured within the casing 1 by screwed members 7, 8 co-operating with packings 5, 6. The valve member has faces 13<a>, 13b co-operating with the seat 12 and a surface 14 surrounding the valve spindle. The spindle 15 is loaded by a torsional spring 18 housed in a chamber 17 and is provided with a manipulating head 16 having a depending skirt 16<a> adapted to work between inner and outer cylindrical projections 19, 20 on the casing 4. The skirt 16<a> carries a double faced cam 22 adapted to be moved into engagement with one side or the other of a similar cam secured to the projection 19. Modifications are described in which the outer projection 19 is dispensed with and in which the inner projection is dispensed with and the cam surface secured to the outer projection. Modifications are also described in which two separate valve heads are formed in the spindle to co-operate with opposed seats between them. The torsional spring may be replaced by a spiral spring or by a coiled helical spring.
