Abstract

524,953. Anti-crease treatment of stockings. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Feb. 16, 1939, No. 4487. Convention date, Feb. 10, 1938. Addition to 504,344. [Classes 2 (ii) and 15 (ii)] Stockings knitted from stretched synthetic linear polymer fibres e.g. polyamide fibres are subjected to the action of hot mild swelling agents whilst mounted on forms before any other hot wet treatment, whereby their shape is fixed. The swelling agent is preferably hot water or saturated steam; alcohols, hydroxy esters and hydroxy ketones or aniline may also be used. In an example, a stocking knitted from stretched polyhexamethylene adipamide yarn is subjected to the action of saturated steam at 125‹C. in an autoclave for 15 mins. whilst mounted on a form ; it may then be dyed hot and boarded without wrinkling. Other agents may be present in the yarn, e.g. plasticizers, pigments, dyes, delustring agents and antioxidants.
