Abstract

523,686. Plug-cocks. WASHBROOK, W. E. Jan. 12, 1939, No. 1045. [Class 135] A duplex cock for regulating two separate but related supplies of fluid wherein one of the passages in the plug is in the form of a superficial groove of progressively varying effective width or depth while the other is a groove of constant cross section. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the plug a has the two superficial grooves e, g which co-operate with a pair of inlet and outlet ports. The groove g instead of being arranged helically as shown may be made of progressively decreasing width or depth to give a gradual opening and closing. An actuating handle c is secured to the plug spindle which is fitted with a stuffing-box h<SP>1</SP> is also provided with an index c<SP>1</SP> adapted to co-operate with a scale on a flange i integral with the cock body. The flange i has integral lugs one or both of which may be fitted with adjustable screws to serve as stops for the index c<SP>1</SP>. In a modification, the actuating handle has a sliding connection with the plug spindle and a screw-threaded engagement with a boss on the casing, a friction pad carried by the moving part and pressed on the fixed threads serving to hold the handle in its adjusted position. In the form shown in Fig. 10 the two passages are formed in separate plugs a<SP>4</SP>, a<SP>5</SP>. The plug a<SP>4</SP> is formed with an additional spindle a<SP>6</SP> passing through a stuffing-box a<SP>7</SP> and having a squared part on which the second plug a<SP>5</SP> is secured.
