Abstract

332,158. Radcliffe, J. Oct. 31, 1929. Locking-catches.-In order to prevent the accidental opening of a rotary gas or petrol cock or tap the operating knob or handle is made axially slidable upon the hollow shank of the plug which encloses a coiled compression spring serving to engage a co-operating recess and projection in the handle and casing respectively. The spring 10 is disposed between a grub screw 11 and a pin 12 which passes through holes 13 in the shank 6 and the knob 7. The holes 13 are elongated to allow the knob 7, which is fitted over the spindle or shank 6, and pin 12 to be raised so as to disengage the projection 8 from the recess 9 and to allow the knob 7 to be turned to open the cock or tap. The extreme positions of the plug are determined by a projection on the casing in conjunction with a gap in the edge of a washer 14 rotating with the plug.
