542,274. Relief valves. PUGH, C. A., GIBSON, J. B., and PLESSEY CO., Ltd. April 24, 1940, No. 13539/41. Divided out of 540,730. [Class 135] A spring-loaded relief valve especially for use in an air system operating at less than atmospheric pressure and having a valve member slidably mounted on a guide has both the valve member and guide provided with grooves which at no time register with one another but may be filled with lubricant. In the form shown the valve member 36 has a flat face co-operating with a seat 35 at the bottom of a conical recess 45 in a plug 34 detachably secured to the casing and has a skirt portion adapted to slide over a fixed tubular guide 38. The guide has ports 42 to connect the interior of the valve member with the fluid conduit 31, 32 and houses a loading spring 42. This spring is arranged between the valve member and an adjustable abutment 40 screwed into the main casing by a square spindle 41 rotatably mounted in the casing.
