Abstract
542,114. Relief valves. VICKERS, Inc., and HERMAN, K. R. Nov. 22, 1940, No. 16780. [Class 135] The casing of a relief-valve comprises a central portion 10 having a bore 12 in which the valve member reciprocates and chambered end caps 40, 62 each adapted to be secured in more than one position on the central part. In the positions shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the chamber 66 in the cap 62 is connected by passages 70, 72 and 36 with the main inlet conduit 30 while the chamber in the cap 40 is connected to the outlet conduit by passages 54, 56 and 34. By removing and re-attaching the cap 62 in a second position the passage 36 is blanked off and actuating pressure is fed directly into the passages 70 after removing the plug 76. Similarly by turning the cap 40 the passage 34 is blanked off and a drain pipe is connected to an aperture normally closed by a plug 74. The valve member has two cylindrical enlargements 24, 26, the part 24 co-operating with a seat aperture in a partition 80 the upper part of the aperture being coned at 78. The valve is loaded by a spring 44 adjusted by a screw 42 and is actuated by a piston 68 arranged in the chamber 66.
