Abstract

520,834. Supply systems for discharge lamps. MEYER. L. W. (Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken). Oct. 31, 1938, No. 31515. [Class 38 (iv)] The magnet coil 6 for centralizing the arc in a horizontally-disposed high pressure discharge lamp 1 is connected in series with a condenser 5 across the discharge lamp and its series-connected stabilizing choke 2, the magnet coil and condenser being so proportioned as to take a leading current and thus compensate for the lagging current in the discharge lamp circuit. The proportions are such that the voltage across the magnet coil amounts to less than 10 per cent. (e.g., 5 per cent.) of the voltage across the condensers.
