Abstract
527,185. Supply circuits for discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FRANCIS, V. J. April 3, 1939, No, 10352. [Class 38 (iv)] A high pressure metal vapour lamp 1 is connected to the secondary 2 of a stray field transformer 3 whose primary is connected to a mains supply 4; at starting the impedence of the total circuit connecting the lamp to the source is lowered by connecting a choke 7 by means of the switch 8 between the lamp and source the connection being broken during normal operation. If a close wound transformer with chokes in series with the primary and/or secondary is used instead of the stray field transformer a similar starting auxiliary circuit is connected.
