Abstract

520,312. Fire - extinguishing; discharging receptacles by direct gas pressure. GRAVINER MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., SALMOND, H. M., and MATHISEN, A. Nov. 4, 1938, No. 32014. [Class 47 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A metal bottle 1 for storing liquid such as carbon tetrachloride under gas pressure, particularly for fire extinguishing in aircraft engine nacelles comprises a container 1 with known discharge fittings 5 and an open supply tube 13, 14, the ends of which are disposed near the ends of the container and substantially centrally thereof. Valves 15, 16 are connected together by a rod 17 so that whichever valve is uppermost is closed by gravity leaving the other open. There is also an intermediate chamber 11 connected by three conduits such as 8, 9 leading to the discharge. Thus the apparatus which is twothirds full of liquid will function in any position even when horizontal as the central tube will then be submerged. Specification 458,429 is referred to.
