[Class 69 (i)] To reduce loss of liquid from petrol &c. tanks when pierced as by a bullet, the tank body has within it one or more spaced tanks or containers, means being provided for controlling the discharge from the tanks &c., or for discharging an inner tank &c. into an outer one before final discharge. In Fig. 1, an outer tank 1, with air inlet 4, contains spaced, open-topped inner tanks 2, and independent discharge pipes 6 pass to a control box 7 ; each pipe 6 is controlled, if desired from a distance, by a manually or automatically operated valve so that an outer tank discharges before an inner one. In Fig. 2, each inner tank 9, 12, 14a, discharges through a control box 11, 13, 15, in the next outer tank, discharge from each outer tank also passing through the control box contained therein. In Fig. 3, each inner tank is closed by the top 17 of the outer tank and has a discharge pipe 21 leading to the next outer tank, and an air inlet pipe 22 leading from said next outer tank, so that the tanks are emptied in succession from the outer one to the inner one. In another form, the tank comprises a number of such sets of compartments side by side in an outer tank. Shallow discharge sumps may be provided in each tank. The tanks may be formed of metal, fabric, plastics or wood.
