Abstract

519,668. Cathode-ray tubes. COSSOR, Ltd., A. C., BEDFORD, L. H., JOFEH, L., and STEVENS, W. H. May 10, 1938, No. 13915. [Class 39 (i)] Focussing in a cathode-ray tube used as a beam valve or one having a fluorescent screen or acting as an iconoscope is effected by a permanent magnet 2 having pole pieces 3, 4 whose internal diameter is smaller than that of the magnet; the pole piece 3 has its internal edge spun over into a cone to receive a rubber wedge inserted between it and the neck 1 of the tube to support the latter. The pole piece 3 is large enough to prevent penetration of the magnetic field along the tube. The pole piece 4 is adjustable on the face of the magnet as described in Specification 519,715. A mild steel ring 5 is adjustable along the neck to adjust focus. Specifications 459,860, 472,165, and 487,998 also are referred to.
