Abstract

518,800. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. SOC. GENERALE DES CARBURATEURS ZENITH. Sept. 30, 1938, No. 28463. Convention date. Oct. 1, 1937. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVII] In a device for controlling an engine throttle by means of the pilot's control lever and by means limiting the maximum opening, two rods pivoted to each other are connected, one to the throttle and the other to the pilot's control, at points which are equidistant from the common pivot and are compelled to move along fixed paths intersecting one another, one of the rods being further connected with the maximum opening control. Figure 4 shows one form in which the two rods 4 and 5 pivoted together at 6 are connected respectively to the throttle 2 and to the pilot's control lever 10 through rods 21, 26 which slide in fixed guides 23, 28 the connecting pins 25, 30 sliding in slots 24, 29. An extension of the rod 4 is also connected by a pin-and-slot device 41, 42 to a maximum opening control comprising a servomotor piston 36 with a valve 34 connected to a capsule 31 in a chamber subjected to the pressure in the inlet pipe. The device is constructed so that when the pilot's lever is in the position which closes the throttle, both of the pins 25, 30 are at the intersection of the slots 24, 29 and the movements of the piston 36 have no action on the throttle. In a modification, the rods 4, 5 are connected directly to the links 22, 27 and the points of connection therewith are guided in fixed curved slots. In another form, the rods 4, 5 are connected directly to the levers 3, 10 so that their points of connection are contrained to move in circular arcs. The maximum opening control may be actuated by a manometric capsule varying with atmospheric pressure, or by a speed governor. In the latter case, the device is arranged so that the pilot's control has no effect on the throttle when the maximum opening control is moved into the position which closes the throttle . This is effected by connecting the link 27 to the pilot's lever 10 at a point which is situated at a distance from the axis of the lever 10 equal to the length of the rods 4, 5.
