Abstract
620,161. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems ; valves. NAPIER & SON, Ltd., D., CHAMBERLIN, R. H. D., WYNNE, C. H. L., and SKELLERN, J. July 1, 1946, No. 19609. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXVI] The fuel metering device of Specification 620,052, is modified in that the turbine drives an airscrew, a servomotor operating on an airscrew governor is interposed between the metering unit and the governor, a third movable member e is provided for the metering orifice, and means is also provided, whereby this member is moved in accordance with speed changes in the prime mover, both actual and as selected by the control. The invention is described with reference to a metering device similar to that described in Specification 620,052, but in which capsule C is replaced by a piston. The third movable member e of the metering orifice is actuated by a lever a movable between stops d, d<SP>1</SP>, this lever being connected to servo-piston P through a link f and a floating lever g. The other end of the latter lever is connected through a cam slot h to a lever h<SP>1</SP>, h<SP>3</SP>, which actuates the pistoncontrol valve j of a servo-piston k<SP>1</SP> acting on the airscrew governor l. Due to restrictions in the supply and exhaust passages to the servomotor cylinder there will be a slight delay in the response of the servomotor. There is a repeat-back connection from the servo-piston k<SP>1</SP> through an eccentrically-pivoted lever m on to a sliding sleeve seat n for the control valve j. The speed is set or selected by manual actuation of lever h<SP>3</SP>. In a modification, lever a is replaced by a bell-crank so that sleeve e will rotate instead of slide. The lower edge of the sleeve is of stepped form and the single, triangular port H in sleeve H<SP>1</SP> is replaced by two spaced triangular ports.
