[Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] In a system of coupled engines having fuel metering pumps and comprising one "master" engine and at least one "slave" engine, means are provided for automatically ensuring equal load distribution. Pistons 1, 4, attached to the control rods of the fuel metering pumps of the "master" and "slave" engines respectively, control the ports 7, 8 in a pressure fluid circuit comprising the pipes 6, 9, and 16, the pressure in the pipe 9 being transmitted to a bellows 11 connected by a lever 21 to an eccentric pivot 20 of a lever 19 operated by a hand speed-control rod 17 to set the pilot valve 18 of the hydraulically operated "slave" engine fuel pump governor. The ports 7, 8 are chosen so that the ratio of their areas remains the same for equal movements of the pistons 1, 4, whereby the pressure in pipe 9 remains constant. If, in setting the engines for a definite load, the pistons 1, 4 move by different amounts, the alteration in pressure in pipe 9 actuates the bellows 11 to adjust the pivot 20, thereby causing the governor 18 to set piston 4 in its right position, automatically correcting the "slave" engine fuel supply. The pistons 1, 4 may be hollow and contain ports co-operating with the ports 7, 8, in which case the rod 2 may rotate to vary the area of these ports. If there is another "slave" engine, it is controlled in a similar manner by a second piston 12 connected to the piston 1, the pressure fluid entering by the pipe 13 and flowing by the pipe 15 to a device similar to the valve 4 on the other "slave" engine.
