Abstract
517,579. Cathode-ray tubes. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., BRETT, G. F., HERRIOTT, E. G., and GRATZE, H. J. S. July 29, 1938, No. 22685. [Class 39 (i)] A subsidiary system for deflecting the cathode ray, additional to the normal deflection means such as mutually perpendicular pairs of plates p<1>, p<2>, comprises a conductive deposit M on the inner wall of the tube surrounding but spaced from a tubular electrode C. The deposit is of silver or other metal or graphite and the electrode M may be conical or frustoconical to correspond to the conical wall of the tube. The ray is deflected to follow a circular path by equal-amplitude quadrature potentials applied to the plates P<1>, P<2> and is deflected radially out of this path by potentials between the deposit M and electrode C. The fluorescent screen F is annular and spaced from a glass tube which extends from the flat or curved end wall E to support the electrode C.
