Abstract
513,192. Time switches. DEWHURST, V., and WELLS, F. Nov. 3, 1938, No. 20160. [Class 38 (v)] In a time switch for controlling the lights of vehicles, a sliding plunger 26 is held against the pressure of a spring 27 from bridging two contacts 28, by the engagement with a projection 25 on the plunger, of a catch 24 on a spring-strip 21. The strip 21 presses against a hub 19 of a gear wheel 18 which is driven by a known type of clock mechanism of which 1 and 2 are the hour and minute hands respectively. The wheel 18 is loosely mounted on a spindle 14 carrying a setting pointer 6 and is prevented from axial movement by a finger 16 on the spindle 14 until its rotation brings opposite the finger 16, a cam depression 17. The wheel 18 then moves axially under the pressure of the spring 21 which now releases the plunger 26 to close the circuit. The spindle 14 has a knob which allows manual setting of the finger 16 to cause operation of the switch at the time indicated by the pointer 6. The switch is reset manually by drawing back the plunger 26. A tumbler switch may be connected in series with the contacts 28.
