Abstract

663,008. Retractive switches. MIDGLEY, A. M. July 5, 1950. [July 5, 1949] No. 17756/ 49. Class 38 (v). A switch, suitable for controlling vehicle direction indicators, comprises spring arms 13, 14, carrying contacts 16 co-operating with fixed contacts 17 and selectively operable by a cam 12 having steps cooperating with steps 20, 21 on the spring arms to cause the centres of the arms to be further distorted after contact engagement so as to increase the contact pressure, the return of the cam being delayed by a clockwork mechanism. Rotation of a knob 1 in either direction causes a cam 3 to tilt a lever 4 connected by a pin-and-slot 5, 6, to a lever 7 carrying a pawl 9 which rides over the teeth of one wheel 8 of a gear train. On release of the knob, a spring 10 returns the lever 4 and the pawl 9 engages and rotates the wheel 8 and the gear train, thereby delaying the return of the cam to normal. An interrupter 22, 23 is operated by the gear train as in Specification 645,595.
