Abstract
645,595. Retractive switches ; momentary contact switches. MIDGLEY, A. H. Oct. 27, 1948, Nos. 27939 and 31501. [Class 38(v)] A time-delay retractive switch particularly for use with traffic indicators, has supplementary contacts which are periodically opened and closed during the period of delay in which the main contacts are closed. The switch is of the type having a central "off " position and the movement of an operating handle (not shown) to one side or the other of the central position closes a circuit between a moving contact member d and either of two blade spring contact-members e or f. At the same time the movement of the handle winds up a clockwork mechanism, (not shown) which, when the handle is released, runs down and after a predetermined interval, restores the contact-member d to its central "off" position. Connected to the first wheel of the clockwork train by a sleeve is a toothed wheel k<SP>3</SP>, the teeth of which co-operate with a pin o' on a pivoted lever o. The free end of lever o carries an insulated projection o<SP>2</SP> which acts on an extension of a spring contact arm m having contacts m<SP>1</SP> which co-operate with fixed contacts m<SP>2</SP>. Thus as the clockwork train runs down, the arm m is oscillated by the lever o causing the periodic opening and closing of the contacts m<SP>1</SP>, m<SP>2</SP>. In Figs. 1-5 (not shown) a supplementary switch is shown with a single set of contacts operated from the second wheel of the clockwork train and giving only half the number of flashes. In Fig. 7 (not shown) a modified arrangement of fixed and movable contacts d-f is illustrated.
