Abstract

815,087. Retractive switches. HOLZER, W. June 10, 1955 [June 11, 1954], No. 16805/55. Class 38 (5). In a cam-operated retractive switch contacts are operated by turning a shaft 41 in either direction from a neutral position and the return to the neutral is immediate from one side and from the other side is delayed by a clockwork mechanism. A cam member 12 with cams 13, which fits on the end 6 of the shaft, is driven with lost-motion by a lug 14 engaging an aperture 19 in a plate fixed to the shaft 41. The cams actuate pins 10 attached to spring-loaded bridging contacts 8. Movement in one direction is opposed by a spiral spring which returns the operating spindle immediately on release. Movement in the other direction is opposed by a second spiral spring and the return is delayed by a toothed segment 34 engaging a pinion and associated retarding mechanism. The second spring is attached to the spindle by a ring (Fig. 5d, not shown) which allows slip when the spindle is turned in the first-mentioned direction.
