Abstract
594,055. Switches held set and freed mechanically. PRENTICE, H. B. June 25, 1946, No. 16153/45. [Class 38(v)] One or more spring-pressed plate contacts 4 are forced out of bridging engagment with fixed contacts 2 by a cam 8a which is trunnioned in the base and rotated by engagement in a slotted hole 13 therein of a pin 14 on the operating spindle 9. The latter is freely withdrawable from the cam and journalled in the cover 16 to provide a dust-proof construction. Two further movable contacts 4a may be operated from the contacts 4 by push-rods 20 to form a multipole switch. Alternatively, one of the contacts may be replaced by a solid link, or a fuse, Fig. 1 (not shown) or the movable contacts may be fuse links. A return or control spring may be fitted to the spindle or its head, and rotation restricted by stops in the base which engage the lowermost pin 14.
