Abstract

758,148. Time switches. VEEDER-ROOT, Inc. July 2, 1954 [July 7, 1953], No. 19481/54. Class 38(5) A switch has a control member actuated by a driving element to perform a first contact operation, said driving element being engageable with a driven member at a certain position to cause the control member ' to perform a second contact operation. As shown applied to cooker control, the control member 64 is fixed on a shaft 62 which is biased to the left or front (Fig. 1) by a spring 66 to hold a contact 40 away from a contact 42 whose arm abuts a stop 70. The shaft also carries the driven member 110 which is slidable thereon but is rotatable therewith by virtue of a pin 128 and slot 126, the member 110 also being biased to the left by a spring 130. To set the timer, the shaft 62 is pushed to the right to allow contact 40 to return to its normal position, Fig. 2, where its arm 44 abuts the stop 70. This movement to the right also frees cams 152. 154 on member 110 from slots 156, 158 (Fig. 5) in a base member 4, so that the members 64 and 110 can be rotated through an angle dependent upon the desired cooking period. The switching-off time is set by a knob (not shown) connected through gearing to a gear wheel 80 which is thus rotated through an appropriate angle in the same direction. The movement to the right of member 110 also causes gear 80 to move to the right so that a key 100 carried by a boss 82 thereof is held against the member 64. The gear 80 is in constant mesh with a thick gear wheel driven from the knob ,and from a clock mechanism .which rotates the gear 80 back again. When the key 100 moves opposite a recess 102 in member 64, the latter is moved to the left by spring 66 to allow the contacts to close. At the same time pins 160, 162 on gear 80 and member 110 engage so: that. thereafter, member 110 and shaft 62 are also rotated until the cams 152, 154 move opposite slots 156, 158 to permit further leftward movement of shaft 62, cam 64 and member 110 to the Fig. 1 position to re-open the contacts. The contacts may be closed manually by rotating the spindle further in the same direction to an extent limited by stops 92, 164 to move a recessed portion 72 of member 64 between contacts 40, 42. Specification ' 728,105 [Group XXXVIII] is referred to.
