Switches, quick-action; spring-straining arrangements; contacts.-Quick-action mechanism for a rotary-contact switch operated by a push-button or by a turn-knob eomprises a disk 7 rotated by the operating member and formed with an eccentric cam slot 8 engaging a pin 9 sliding in a radial slot 10 in the bridging contact member 3. One end of a spiral driving-spring is secured to the contact member and the other end to the disk 7. The contact member 3 is held in its contact and non-contact positions by the engagement of the pin 9 with notches in a stationary disk 6. When the disk 7 is rotated by the actuating means, the spring is strained until the cam slot 8 moves the pin 9 to the outer end of the slot 10 thereby releasing the contact member which moves rapidly to the next position. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the switch is operated by a retractive press-button 13 having a square stem 4 formed with a twisted portion 5 which, when pressed through a square hole in the disk 7, causes rotation of the disk, the stem being prevented from rotating by passing it through a square hold in a ratchet disk 16 which can rotate in one direction only. For operation by a turnbutton, the desk 7 is fixed upon the turning stem. The fixing means for the leads, and the fixed contacts 2 are integral with one another, as shown.
