Abstract
643,597. Electromagnetic switches; actuation of switches. GUARDIAN ELECTRIC MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 26, 1948, No. 5766. Convention date, Jan. 7, 1944. [Class 38(v)] In a time delay device, a clockwork timing mechanism is operated by the plunger of a solenoid through a pair of co-axially pivoted oppositely extending levers connected by spring means, so as to cause actuation of a switch after a predetermined time. The two levers 54, 60 are pivoted at 50 and urged away from each other by a coil spring 73 wound round pivot 50, a stop 70 on lever 60 maintaining them in the inline position shown. Operation of the solenoid 11 causing upward movement of the plunger, 12 rotates lever 54, the consequent stressing of the spring 73 rotating lever 60 anti-clockwise and actuating the ratchet 17 of the clockwork mechanism. After a predetermined time, a cam surface 68 on a cam 67 rotating with lever 60, engages a roller 84 and operates a snap-action switch 80. The upward movement of the plunger also stresses a second coil spring (not shown) on the pivot 50 which, when the solenoid is de-energized, returns the plunger to the position shown, lever 54 meanwhile engaging the stop 70 and carrying lever 60 round with it thereby moving ratchet 17 upwards, back to the position shown. The timing mechanism is thus automatically reset. Movement of the rack in the upward direction takes place through freewheel mechanism so that the clockwork mechanism is not actuated.
