Abstract

404,688. Time switches. SANGAMO ELECTRIC CO., Springfield, Illinois, U.S.A. July 16, 1932, No. 20222. Convention date, June 9. [Class 38 (v).] A time-switch having a contact-controlling member 25 moved alternately " on and " off " by the action of tappets on a 24 hour dial 3, may also be actuated at any time by hand without upsetting subsequent clockwork actuation and has means for putting out of action on any selected day of the week. The member 25 is pivoted at 26 and has a roller 22 which engages a spring 11 allowing a contact 15 on this to engage a fixed contact 16 when the member 25 is rotated in a clockwise-direction. The member 25 may also carry a second roller 23 engaging a second spring contact carrying member 12, which has a ramp 28 causing the spring 12 to move downwards and separate contacts when the above clockwise movement occurs. The member 25 has an arm 31 connected by a spring 41 with a bell-crank lever 33 pivoted at 34 to a bell-crank lever 36 the upper arm of which carries a roller 60 and is controlled by a spring 38. At a predetermined time the " on " tappet 5 engages the roller 60 pressing this down and then suddenly releasing it. This causes a bodily lowering and release of the lover 33, the upper arm of which slips along below the arm 31 till a tooth on it engages below the arm 31 so that during the release movement the arm 31 is raised and the member 25 is rotated into its "on" position. Later the "off" tappet 6 engages a turned up end 51 of the lever 33 moving this till its tooth disengages the arm 31, allowing this and the member 25 to rotate back into the " off " position. The switch may also be moved " on " and "off" manually by pressing on the arms 53 and 51 respectively. After a manual " on " operation, subsequent engagement of the " on " tappet 5 with the roller 60 would cause as before a slow lowering of the lever 33 and the arm 31 would slowly follow it causing a slow and undesired "off" movement of the member 25. To prevent this a weighted lever 45 is provided which engages the arm 31 and prevents its movement. The lever 45 has a hook engaging the arm 33 so that it moves with the arm 33 out of engagement with the arm 31 when the arm 33 is actuated by the " off " tappet or manually. The means for putting the device out of action for a day comprises a seven-spoke star wheel 61 moved on once a day by a pin on the tappet 5 and having holes in its arms in any one of which a peg may be placed. This peg on the selected day strikes a lever 63 and moves the end 66 of it into engagement with the end 51 of the lever 33, preventing this lever from actuating the arm 31.
