Abstract

484,949. Time switches. SORENSEN, S. A. June 9, 1937, No. 16062. Convention date, June 9, 1936. [Class 38 (v)] A device, particularly suitable for turning wireless programmes on and off at predetermined times, is operated by pins inserted in two circles of holes on a dial. A pin such as p<1> on a clockwork driven 24 hour dial engages and then releases the end b<1> of a lever B<1>, D<1>, the consequent oscillatory movement of the end D<1> of which causes the release in two steps of a spring-driven disc T which is connected to a switch M by a crank and eccentric mechanism L or other means. The arm D<1> has at its end two abutments one of which, F<1> normally engages a pin s on the disc T. When the pin p<1> engages the sloping end of the arm B<1> the abutment F<1> is slowly moved to the right releasing the disc T which rotates till the pin s engages the second abutment F<2>. When the pin p<1> slips off the end b<1> the lever B<1>, D<1> moves back quickly to its original position releasing the pin s so that the disc T can now rotate to close the switch M. In the form shown the disc rotates only through half a revolution being stopped by the pin s engaging one of two abutments on a second lever B<2>, D<2>. This second lever operates in a similar manner to the first lever B<1>, D<1> when it is oscillated by pins p<2> arranged on a different circle of the same dial. That is, at predetermined times it releases the disc T in two steps so that the disc turns through half a revolution to open the switch M till it is stopped again by the abutment F<1> on the first lever. The switch may also be manually operated by press buttons U<1>, U<2> on arms connected to the two levers. A quick break is given by a spring M<1> and lost motion between the crank wheel K and the disc T. The pins are adapted to be inserted in holes in the dial which are arranged very closely together so that the switch can be turned on and off if desired at small intervals of time, say every five minutes.
