Abstract

[Class 59] [Also in Group XIII] In a rotary drum installation the drum is supported on a journal bearing or bearings by one or more live rings integral with or rigidly secured to an end wall or diaphragm of the drum. As shown in Fig. 1, the drum 1 is provided with supporting ring-bearings 14, 11 resting on journal bearings 7, 8, the bearing 8 having slight lateral play to provide for the expansion of the drum. The ring 11 is formed integral with an end casting comprising a diaphragm 5 and end plate 4, a scoop 20 being attached to the diaphragm to return oversize particles to the drum. The ring 14 is formed as a flange to a diaphragm 15. In Fig. 3 the ring 23 is secured to a diaphragm 26 and is supported on a journal bearing 21. Specification 295,166, [Class 59], is referred to.
