Abstract

556,200. Cooling-towers. GILL, F. E., and DAVENPORT ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. June 26, 1942, No. 8772. [Class 64 (i)] In a cooling tower of the kind in which a series of water-collecting troughs disposed near the base of the tower constitute a louvre for admitting air to the tower through the gaps between adjacent troughs, the combined troughs and louvres are arranged in a substantially horizontal plane and conduct the water to a central tank at the base of the tower. In the construction shown the combined troughs and louvres C form a concentric circular arrangement, the water being conducted to the tank B via a number of radial channels E, Fig. 5. In a modification the troughs 3 are disposed radially and slope slightly towards the central tank.
