Abstract
560,274. Bearings. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., WATKINS, V., and MAYNE, J. S. Nov. 9, 1942, No. 15809. [Class 12 (i)] In a shaft bearing, such as for a rolling mill, the lower or carrier chock 19 is supported entirely by suspension within a box'13 forming part of the upper or main chock. Chock 19 is supported by the lower ends of bolts 23 supported from the box 13 by springs 25 and nuts 28 outside the box, to regulate the lifting effect of chock 19.. The main chock extends across the box so as to form two chambers 34, 36 which may be completely separate, Fig. 8, or communicate, Fig. 2. The box 13 may be in one part, or in two parts connected by bolts 46, Fig. 8. The liners may consist of moulded fabric strips 12, 18 or Babbitt or white-metal members 40, 42 cast in situ. The upper chamber 44 may constitute a water jacket, the bolts passing through sleeves 43 integral with the box. The box may be sealed as described in Specification 560,273.
