A rotary drum 1 is carried by self-aligning shoes 5 each having an internal passage 12 to which cooling liquid, such as water, is supplied through a flexible pipe 11 and discharged through a flexible pipe 13. The sliding surfaces are lubricated by oil picked up from an oil bath 9 when the drum is rotating and by oil pumped through pipes 10 when the mill is started.
