Abstract

517,184. Axle - box shields. STROMEIER, G. July 21, 1938, No. 21716. [Class 122 (v)] An axle-box shield comprises a rotating ring d between stationary members e<1>, f<1> having oil stripping edges e, f bearing on the ring d and enclosing passages for oil outflow. Oil collects in a chamber k and is returned to the box through passage l. Member f' carries a packing ring m pressed axially into contact with the wall of the box by spring n carried by a plate p. Ring d may be in two parts,. each split and assembled between the members e<1>, f<1> by helically twisting them through a gap in one of the members.
