[Class 122 (v)] A sealing device for a rotary shaft 6 comprises two radially split metal discs 1, having circumferential reinforcements 13 and lugs 11, inserted between grooves 3 in the housing 2 and grooves 28 in sealing rings 7 fitted on to the shaft 6. The rings 7 may be completely or partially slit and may have an additional. flange 23 making double grooves 14 as shown in Fig. 4. Fig. 3 shows an end-closure formed by a plate 16 secured by springs 15 to the disc 1.
