Abstract

810,247. Piston rings. LIGHT PRODUCTION Ltd. July 22, 1957 [Oct. 19, 1956], No. 31963/56. Addition to 773,268. Class 122 (1). In a piston ring assembly of the kind described in the parent Specification, which is referred to, and comprising two split rings 13, 14 arranged one on each side of an expander ring of wavy formation in plan provided on each side of its inner crests with axial extensions forming support shoulders 11 for the split rings, slots 10 for the passage of oil are provided in both the inner and the outer crests while the portions 12 of the ring between the crests are imperforate. The slots 10 extend substantially up to the imperforate portions 12 or up to and around the bends between the crests and the imperforate portions. The expander ring is split with imperforate end portions 17 separated by a gap 15 which is less than the gap 16 in the rings 13, 14.
