In a piston-and-ring assembly comprising a bearing ring 6 of channel section formed by an axial portion having at each end an inturned radial flange 10 engaged in one of a pair of grooves 11 in the piston 1, the bearing ring 6 is divided axially as at 7 into two or more arcuate parts.
