Abstract
512,075. Silencers. WOLD, W. P., and EGER, A. April 2, 1938, No. 10158. [Class 7 (ii)] The exhaust pipe discharges into a chamber 9 in which there is a single perforated conical pipe 13, 14 in line with the exhaust pipe, the conical pipe tapering towards the outlet and having an imperforate wall 11 extending across it, and the gases issue from the chamber through the perforations in the part 14 of the conical pipe. In the construction shown, the gases enter the chamber through the front part 13 of the conical pipe. In another form the front part of the pipe is dispensed with. The wall across the pipe may be either flat or conical. The perforations in the pipe may be made by widely slitting the pipe transversely to the axis and pressing the pipe wall outwardly. Several forms of slots and arrangements of the same are described.
