509,133. Centrifugal separators. MEER, G. T. Feb. 25, 1939, No. 6298. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1938. [Class 23] A centrifugal separator of the push-bottom type has a perforated cage 1 mounted on the overhanging end of a horizontal hollow shaft 2 running in bearings 3, 4, the shaft being expanded between the bearings to form a power cylinder 5 which acts as a counterweight to the cage and also as a brake drum. The piston 7 in the power cylinder 5 is mounted on the rod 6 which passes through the shaft 2 and carries the push-bottom plate 8 which is connected by ribs 9 to a front cover portion 10. A catch plate 20 is also provided. The material to be treated enters by the pipe 19 and is thrown by the conical part 8<1> of the plate 8 to the wall of the cage. The liquid passes through the wall to the casing 16 and the remainder is pushed by the plate 8 into the casing 17. Packing 11 forms a tight joint between the movable cover 10 and the cage wall, and labyrinth packing 18 separates the casings 16, 17. The piston 7 is operated by pressure fluid supplied through the bearing 4. In a modification, the plate 8 is perforated so that liquid can pass through it, and the cover portion 10 is conical so that it can act as the inlet hopper.
