528,726. Centrifugal dust extractors. DAVIDSON, T. M. May 13, 1939, No. 14385. [Class 23] A centrifugal dust extractor has a rotor h on a vertical axis working within a casing a of considerably larger diameter than its own, and arranged to extend below the rotor to form a chamber for the circulation of the dust laden gases. The rotor h has radial blades h' upon its upper surface and may have similar blades h<SP>2</SP> upon its lower surface ; it is driven by the motor g carried by the top of the apparatus. The inlet opening a<SP>3</SP> in the top plate a<SP>2</SP> of the separator is surrounded by an annular fitting c covered by a plate d and the space thus enclosed communicates with the inlet fitting e. The clean gas outlet pipe f rises through the lower end of the casing a to a point just below the rotor. The dust-laden gas passes from the inlet e through the opening a<SP>3</SP> and is thrown outwards by the rotor blades to return and enter the pipe f after circulation inside the casing. The rejected dust particles drop through the gap a' at the bottom of the casing to the dust box b provided with a. door b' for removal of dust. A conical cowl f<SP>3</SP> is mounted on the pipe f to prevent eddy currents. A conveyer may be used to carry the dust from the box b. Specification 504,784 is referred to.
