1279790 Centrifugal separator GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE AG 19 April 1971 [14 Feb 1970] 27210/71 Heading B2P A steam-liquid centrifugal separator comprises an ascending duct 1 through which the steam-liquid mixture is introduced, the duct being closed at the top, e.g. by a partition 2, and being fitted at its top end portion with a ring of vanes 3 extending generally outwardly from its peripheral surface, the duct and vanes being surrounded by a collector casing 6, pairs of adjacent vanes 9 being joined together at their outer and inner edges to present a continuous outer surface and to define verticallyextending steam passages to provide communication between the space within the casing 6 below the vanes and a steam extractor pipe 5 fitted above the vanes. Single vanes 10 are provided between the pairs of joined vanes to provide radial passages 4, these passages being closed at their top and bottom. The lower end portion of the casing is provided with a liquidseal trap 7 and at its upper edge is provided an annular baffle plate 8 having a curved portion. In operation, the steam-liquid mixture fed through the duct 1 escapes through the passages 4 in the ring of vanes being thereby imparted with rotary motion so that part of the liquid is separated out on the inner wall of the casing 6 and rises to the upper edge. thereof where it is removed by the baffle 8. The remainder of the liquid is removed below via the liquid-seal trap. The bulk of the steam separated from the liquid is led away from the casing at the top. Any steam entrained by the liquid below the ring of vanes 3 escapes via the vertical passages provided between the joined vanes 9 into the pipe 5. Liquid particles in the steam ascending through the pipe 5 separate out by gravity and is removed from the dished upper surface of the partition 2 through a drain pipe 11.
