Abstract
1390705 Centrifugal separator BRONSWERK APPARATENBOUW BV 13 July 1973 [13 July 1972] 33601/73 Heading B2P A centrifugal separator for removing solid particles from a gas comprises a housing 1, 4 having an upper wall 3, a tangential inlet channel 2 for the gas to be purified at its upper end and a discharge opening 5 for the removed particles at its lower end; a rotor 6 centrally disposed with respect to the housing and including a gas permeable cage 9 in the housing spaced below the wall 3 thereof and a ventilator blade wheel 14 associated with an outlet channel 16 for the purified gas above the wall 3; means, e.g. a motor, for driving the rotor; guide means, e.g. a helical guiding plate 20, in the housing, associated with the inlet channel 2 and causing incoming gas to flow in a helical path to the zone of the housing interior containing the cage 9 so that gas enters the rotor through the cage and purified gas flows through the rotor to the outlet channel 16; and a cylindrical partition 18 disposed coaxially with the rotor between the upper end of the cage and the upper wall 3 of the housing and having a diameter of at least 1.15 times the outer diameter of the cage. The cage 9 consisting of a plurality of circumferentially spaced rods is closed at its bottom by an end plate 10 and is provided at its top with a ring 11 to which radially extending baffles 12 are attached. The baffles extend through an opening 13 in the upper wall 3 of the housing and are enlarged above this opening to form the ventilator blade wheel 14. In operation a portion of the solid particles is removed by centrifugal force as the gas is deflected in a helical path by the plate 20 and the remainder of the particles is separated as the gas enters the cage 9.
